The Five Degrees of the Allied Masonic Degrees

St Lawrence the Martyr

The Degree of St Lawrence the Martyr must be taken first and explains how Lawrence gave his life rather than betray his principles. Integrity and fortitude are the lessons to be learned in this very old Degree, thought to have been worked since the days when Operative Masons still sought to be distinguished from the new ‘Speculatives’

Knight of Constantinople

This Degree appears to be entertaining and amusing but at the end, the candidate is left in no doubt of the importance and virtue of humility.

Grand Tyler of Solomon

This very dramatic Degree is set in the secret vault beneath the Temple. It reflects on the danger of careless hasty judgement.

Red Cross of Babylon

This Degree fills the gap between the Craft and Holy Royal Arch and deals with Zerubbabel’s efforts to commence the rebuilding of the Temple. The lesson here is of the supreme importance of truth, but there is a sub-text – no less than the preparation for crossing that last frontier.

The Order of Grand High Priest

Grand High Priest

Covering the 400 years from the blessing of Abram by Melchizedek to the consecration of Aaron as High Priest. Many believe that this is the climactic Degree in the Order
